About permissions for GitHub Apps

When you create a GitHub App, you set the permissions that define the resources the app can access via the API.

After you create a GitHub App, you can modify the app's permission to end user data. For more information, see "Editing a GitHub App's permissions."

Note: To access the API with your integration, you must provide a custom media type in the Accept Header for your requests.

Note: GitHub Apps are only compatible with the REST API v3 at this time.

Metadata permissions

Metadata permissions are enabled for every GitHub App. It's a collection of read only endpoints for accessing general information for various resources that the authorized installation has access to. For detailed information on these endpoints, see "Permissions."
